Adventurous Canyoning in the Sušec Canyon
The Sušec Canyon is often referred to as the natural aqua park of the Bovec area: rock slides shaped by water, smaller jumps, pools, cascades and constant movement make the tour exciting. This canyoning experience does not take you into the world of the most extreme canyons, but into an enjoyable introductory adventure that can be a good choice for families, groups of friends and beginners alike.
The greatest advantage of Sušec canyoning is that it offers many different experiences in a short time. You do not just walk through a canyon; you are constantly on the move: sliding, jumping, climbing, landing in the water, descending on a rope through a waterfall, laughing, and moving step by step down among natural rock slides and pools, all in the appropriate neoprene equipment: wetsuit, shoes, helmet and canyoning harness.
What is canyoning?
Canyoning is a guided canyon program where participants move downward through gorges shaped by water. During the tour, you may slide on natural rock slides, jump into smaller pools, climb, walk, move near waterfalls and explore hidden parts of the canyon with safety equipment. The experience is most similar to a natural aqua park, where the slides, pools and water obstacles were not built by people but formed by nature.
A beginner canyoning experience you will not forget
The Sušec Canyon is one of the best introductory canyoning locations around Bovec. It is playful, spectacular and exciting enough to remain a real adventure, yet it is not among the extremely difficult canyons. Water and rock provide the essence of the program.
During the tour you move down natural slides, encounter smaller jumps and water obstacles, and descend on a rope while the guide gives instructions throughout. The goal is not to deliver an extreme performance, but to experience, within safe limits, what it feels like to move through a real canyon.
For those who later want more than the aqua-park feeling, the Bovec region also offers other, more serious canyons, such as the gorges of Fratarica, Predelica, Globovski Potok or Kozjak, where larger descents, more technical rock formations and greater challenges await more experienced participants.
How the Sušec canyoning tour works, in brief
1. Arrival at the HungaroRaft base in Bovec
The tour starts at the HungaroRaft base. We meet here, complete the necessary administration, and you receive the equipment required for canyoning. It is worth arriving 15 minutes before the agreed time so there is enough time for preparations without rushing.
2. Equipment and transfer to the Sušec Canyon
Everyone changes into the technical equipment required for the tour: wetsuit, canyoning shoes, helmet and canyoning harness. Then we take you by transfer to the area near the Sušec Canyon, which is a short trip of about 10 minutes from the Bovec base.
3. Hiking up to the canyon entrance
After the transfer, there is an approximately 25-minute walk up to the canyoning starting point. This is already part of the experience: during this time you get into the mood for the program, get used to the equipment, and arrive in the natural aqua-park atmosphere of the Sušec Canyon.
4. Safety briefing before the canyon
Before entering the water, the guide explains the most important safety and technical information. They show you how to slide on the natural rock slides, how to jump, what to watch out for on wet stones, and which signals to follow in the canyon.
5. Canyoning in the Sušec Canyon
Then the most exciting part of the tour begins: exploring the Sušec Canyon. During the program, natural slides, smaller jumps, waterfalls, rope descents, pools and playful water obstacles await you. The time spent in the canyon is usually about 1.5–2 hours, and the complete program takes around 3.5 hours.
6. Return to the base
At the end of the canyoning tour, we take you back by transfer to the HungaroRaft base in Bovec. Here you can change clothes, relax and view the photos taken during the tour.

Why choose the HungaroRaft team?
In canyoning, the foundation of a good experience is safe guiding. The Sušec Canyon is playful and beginner-friendly, but when sliding, jumping and moving on wet rock surfaces, it is very important that you understand exactly what to do. HungaroRaft’s qualified guides support participants with continuous instructions so that the slides and jumps can be completed safely.
For Hungarian guests, clear communication, the familiar HungaroRaft organization and the fact that you do not have to interpret the canyon situations on your own are particular advantages. The guides keep an eye on the group, the participants’ confidence, the conditions and the overall flow of the program so that it is not only spectacular but also safely enjoyable.
Photography - We capture your memories
We also capture the best moments of the tour in professional photos. During the program, the guides use OM System Tough cameras to record the best moments, so you do not need to take your own phone or camera onto the water.
After the experience, you can view the best moments in an online album and decide to purchase the photo package only if you would like to keep them. The price of the photo package is €24.
Who is Sušec canyoning a good choice for?
Sušec canyoning is a good choice for those looking for an adventurous, water-based, playful program around Bovec. It is important that you are not afraid of heights, are not put off by water, and can swim!
It is an especially good choice if...
...you enjoy the atmosphere of aqua parks, slides, jumping, natural water obstacles and dynamic programs. The tour is recommended from age 8, but children as young as 6 may also participate; in their case, prior consultation is required.
Who can canyoning be a good choice for?
- Families with older children,
- Active couples,
- Groups of friends,
- Beginner canyoners who would like to try canyoning but do not want to start with an extreme tour.
Who is it not recommended for?
This is not the best choice for those who are afraid of heights, do not like jumping into water or sliding, feel uncomfortable in narrower, wet, rocky environments, or for whom the hike up the steep path would be a serious physical challenge.
If someone is specifically looking for extreme canyoning with large descents and more serious technical challenges, Sušec may be too easy for them. A more difficult canyoning program or a more advanced outdoor tour may be a better fit.
Important information and conditions
Canyoning in the Sušec Canyon is an adventurous, active, water-based program that serves as an introductory tour to the world of canyoning. It is not designed for extreme athletes, but it is important that you enjoy water, are not afraid of heights (the highest element is a 12-meter rope descent), and are happy to slide, jump and move in a natural rocky environment.

The difficulty level of the Sušec Canyon
The Sušec Canyon is a beginner-friendly canyoning tour, but it is not boring: natural slides, smaller jumps and waterfall sections make it varied. The highest element is about 12 meters, while the jumps are typically lower, up to about 6–7 meters. Participation always depends on the current water level, the group’s comfort level and the guide’s decision.
Participation requirements:
- Swimming ability: Recommended, although the life jacket keeps everyone afloat, but it is important that you do not panic in the water.
- Age limit 6+: The canyoning tour is generally recommended from age 8; for younger children, prior consultation is required. Exact participation may also depend on the current water level, weather and the guide’s decision. Under the age of 18, participation in the tour requires parental supervision or consent.
- Weight limit: Due to the standard sizing of the safety equipment, the maximum weight limit is 125 kg, but you must be able to handle the uphill walk on the steep mountain path. If you are close to the weight limit, please let us know in advance.
- Health: Participation in the tour requires a sober state, free from intoxication. It is not possible to participate in the tour under the influence of alcohol or mind-altering substances.
- Physical condition: You do not need to be an athlete, but basic movement skills, stamina and cooperation are required. The tour is not recommended in case of serious cardiovascular or musculoskeletal problems or recent injury; spinal problems are an exclusion criterion.
- Safety: Before entering the water, every participant receives a safety briefing. During the tour, the guide’s instructions must always be followed.
- Weather and water level: The program can also be held in the rain, but the route or departure may change based on the current water level and safety considerations.
- Mandatory condition for participation: signing the liability waiver.
- Insurance: Travel insurance with extreme sports coverage is mandatory. Please arrange suitable insurance before your trip and make sure it covers the selected program, as well as white-water or other extreme sports activities.
