Miniraft - whitewater canoe tour on the Soča
Put yourself to the test!
The whitewater canoe tour on the Soča River is one of HungaroRaft’s most exciting programmes. The 2–3 person inflatable whitewater canoe requires a little more challenge and individual performance than an 8-person raft. That is exactly what makes it exciting, because you are steering and not disappearing in the team, so you can truly feel how the boat reacts to the current, the waves and your own movements. The programme includes
exciting rapids,
wild and scenic sections , offers a
more relaxed small-group experience and
certified tour guides make sure every participant can enjoy this whitewater adventure to the fullest.
Another strong point of the programme is that with a miniraft you can paddle a longer section of the Soča than during classic rafting. This means not only more time on the water, but also a more varied rhythm:
there are easier sections where you get a feel for the boat, and there are also parts where you really
have to work with the paddle.
When should you come? Choose the Soča experience that suits you
The atmosphere of the Soča River changes from season to season, so classic rafting shows a slightly different side in spring and summer.
Spring adrenaline – a more dynamic, sportier experience
From April to around mid-June, water levels are usually higher due to snowmelt, the current is stronger and the waves are bigger. At this time the tour is more dynamic, wetter and richer in adrenaline.
It is for you if: you enjoy active programmes, you are not afraid of splashing water and you are looking for a more exciting Soča rafting experience.
Summer adventure and play – relaxed, more family-style rafting
From late June to August, the river usually shows its friendlier, more playful side. At this time there is more splashing, laughter, shared paddling and an easier summer mood.
It is for you if: you are coming with your partner, friends or older children, and you are looking for a more exciting programme around Bovec.
How the whitewater canoe tour works in brief
1. Equipment and transfer to the river
We provide the equipment needed for the tour, then take you by transfer to the starting point.
2. Safety briefing before getting on the water
The guide explains the basics of paddling, the signals and the most important safety information.
3. Canoe tour on the Soča River
Participants travel from the base to the river by transfer, which takes about 10 minutes. After that comes changing into the neoprene gear. The full programme lasts around 3 hours, of which you spend roughly 1.5 hours on the river. Throughout the tour, the guide directs the team.
4. Return to the base
At the end of the tour, we take you back to the centre by minibus (approx. 20 minutes), where you can change, relax and view the photos taken during the tour, if any photos were taken.
What is included in the price?
The price includes everything needed for an organised rafting tour:

Photos are also taken during the tour. During the programme, the guides take excellent pictures with OM System Tough cameras, so you do not have to risk your own phone or camera on the water. After the programme you can view the images in an online album, and you only decide to purchase them if you would like to keep them. The price of the photo package: €24
Why the whitewater canoe tour in Slovenia is a good choice
The whitewater canoe tour is for you if you are looking for an exciting, well-organised and memorable rafting experience in Slovenia with Hungarian-language guidance. This miniraft tour offers more control, more active participation and a more personal experience than classic rafting, while still not becoming an overly technical or sport-focused challenge.
Who do we recommend the whitewater canoe tour for?
The whitewater canoe tour is a small-group, active adventure programme where you can experience the wild and scenic world of the Soča River more directly. We especially recommend it to those who have already tried large-boat rafting and would like something more intense and exciting. Thanks to the smaller boats, you get closer to the water and feel the current, the waves and the exciting rapids more intensely, while the tour passes through a beautiful Alpine environment, spectacular gorges and natural river sections. The programme offers both adrenaline and a genuine nature experience.
The whitewater canoe tour in Slovenia is a good choice if...
The whitewater canoe tour is for those who would like to take a more active part in paddling, and who do not want to travel down the river only as passengers, but truly move together with the water.
We especially recommend it if you are an experienced touring canoeist and would also like to try yourself in a whitewater environment. It is important to know that minirafts and inflatable whitewater canoes are less stable than classic rafting boats, so the tour is more dynamic and playful, and swimming can also be part of the experience. This is exactly what makes it a truly intense, personal and memorable adventure.
Who can the miniraft canoe tour be a good choice for?
We recommend it to those who have already tried rafting and now want a more exciting, more personal whitewater experience. It is an ideal choice for couples, friends or smaller groups who would like to take a more active part in paddling together, get closer to the water and experience the current, waves and rapids of the Soča River more intensely.
May be a good choice for:
- couples looking for a shared experience, not just “another programme to tick off”
- groups of 2–3 friends
- active travellers who love nature and movement
- those who have already been rafting and would now like to try a more personal version
- beginners as well, if they can swim, are in good physical and mental condition and are open to following instructions.
Who do we not recommend it for?
The whitewater canoe tour requires active participation, so it is not for those who want a completely passive experience and would rather just drift along the river as a “passenger”. In the smaller boats, every participant paddles and moves together with the team, so cooperation, basic physical capacity and feeling comfortable in a water environment are important.
We mainly recommend the programme for teenagers and adults, so for families with small children, the easier family rafting option may usually be a better choice. The minimum age for the whitewater canoe tour is 12 years, and confident swimming ability is required for participation. Under the age of 18, participation in the tour requires parental supervision or written parental consent.
Important information and conditions
The miniraft white-water canoe tour is a more adventurous and active experience than the easy family rafting tour, while still being designed for those who would like to get closer to the real white-water experience without finding themselves in an extreme sport.
What is a miniraft?
A miniraft is essentially a smaller white-water boat in which usually 2–3 people paddle together under the guidance or supervision of a tour guide. Compared to classic large rafting boats, it gives you a more direct connection with the river: every movement matters, you feel the current, the paddling and the waves more intensely, making the experience more personal, dynamic and active. At the same time, minirafting remains a safe programme that is also accessible for beginners, provided that participants follow the instructions.
What does I–III whitewater difficulty mean?
I–III whitewater difficulty means that the tour can range from calmer, easily paddleable sections to faster-flowing, wavier and more exciting rapids. Level I is still easy, level II is more playful whitewater, while level III requires more active paddling and greater attention. This category is ideal for those who want a safe but genuine whitewater experience, and it can also be a good choice for beginners.
It is important that participants are generally in good physical condition, feel comfortable in a water environment, and follow the instructions of the tour guide. The Soča is beautiful, but it is a living river: water levels, weather and the composition of the group always influence exactly which section the tour takes place on and at what intensity.
Before the tour, you will receive a detailed safety briefing. The tour guide will explain the paddling technique, commands, the rules for sitting in the boat, and what to do if someone falls into the water. The goal is for the adventure to be exciting, while remaining controlled and safe throughout.
Participation conditions:
- Swimming ability: This is white-water paddling, so confident swimming ability is required. The life jacket keeps everyone afloat, but it is important that you do not panic in the water.
- Age limit 12+: The miniraft tour is generally recommended from the age of 12. Exact participation may also depend on the current water level, weather and the decision of the tour guide. Under the age of 18, parental supervision or parental consent is required to take part in the tour.
- Weight limit: Due to the standard sizing of the safety equipment, the maximum weight limit is 125 kg. If you are close to this, please let us know in advance.
- Health: Participation in the tour requires a sober state, free from intoxication. It is not possible to take part in the tour under the influence of alcohol or mind-altering substances.
- Physical condition: You do not need to be an athlete, but basic mobility, stamina and cooperation are required. The tour is not recommended in the case of serious cardiovascular or musculoskeletal problems, knee injuries or recent injuries.
- Safety: Before getting on the water, every participant receives a safety briefing. During the tour, the instructions of the tour guide must always be followed.
- Weather and water level: The programme can also take place in rain, but the route or departure may change depending on the current water level and safety considerations.
- River usage fee: A separate river usage fee is payable on site on the Soča River (3–21 €/person). The amount may depend on the current section and water level, as it covers two sectors. The fee must be paid on site. Further details can be found at www.gosoca.si.

What should you prepare for before the white-water canoe tour?
Prepare for an approximately half-day programme, which includes administration, changing clothes, transfer, instruction and time spent on the river. - Towel: You will need it after the tour for changing and showering.
- Dry change of clothes: Bring comfortable dry clothes that you can change into after the programme.
- Glasses / contact lenses: If you wear glasses, it is worth securing them with a strap. For contact lenses, it is recommended to bring spare lenses or glasses as well.
