Soča Rafting Expedition - a full-day rafting experience

The Soča Rafting Expedition is a full-day, guided white-water programme in Slovenia that offers a longer and more varied experience than classic rafting. During the tour, participants not only get to paddle, but also discover several faces of the Soča River: the faster sections, calmer bays, gravel banks and canyon-like areas.

What makes a rafting expedition more than a classic rafting tour?

The expedition character of the programme comes from the longer time frame, the more varied river experience, several stops, a more playful day and the picnic, as well as the fact that the day is not about a single short river section. The rafting is complemented by stops, playful water elements, rest periods and a light lunch or picnic halfway through. This gives participants time to get into the river, enjoy the scenery and actively take part in the shared adventure.

When should you come? Choose the Soča experience that suits you

The atmosphere of the Soča River changes from season to season, so classic rafting shows a slightly different side in spring and summer.

Spring adrenaline – a more dynamic, sportier experience

From April to around mid-June, the water level is usually higher due to snowmelt, the current is stronger and the waves are bigger. During this period, the tour is more dynamic, wetter and more adrenaline-filled.
It is for you if: you enjoy active programmes, you are not afraid of splashing water, and you are looking for a more exciting Soča rafting experience.

Summer adventure and play – more relaxed, family-friendly rafting

From the end of June to August, the river usually shows its friendlier, more playful side. During this period, there is more splashing, laughter, shared paddling and a lighter summer atmosphere.
It is for you if: you are coming with your partner, friends or older children, and you are looking for a more exciting programme around Bovec.

This is how the rafting expedition works in short

1. Arrival at the HungaroRaft base in Bovec
We meet at the base, complete the necessary administration, and you receive your rafting equipment. Arrival / meeting time is approximately 15 minutes before the agreed time.

2. Equipment and transfer to the river
We provide the equipment needed for the tour, then take you by minibus to the starting point.

3. Safety briefing before getting on the water
The guide explains the basics of paddling, the signals and the most important safety information in 10–15 minutes.

4. Rafting on the Soča River
From the base, participants travel by minibus to the river, which takes about 15 minutes. Then you change into the neoprene suits. The total duration of the programme is approximately 6 hours. In addition to the excitement of waves and rapids, various games, sliding and cliff jumping make the tour even more colourful. Halfway through, the guides serve a light, refreshing lunch.

5. Return to the base
At the end of the tour, we take you back to the centre (approx. 20 minutes), where you can change clothes, relax and view the photos taken during the tour.

What does the price include?

The price includes everything needed for an organised rafting tour:

  • professional guiding
  • rafting boat and paddle
  • helmet and life jacket
  • neoprene equipment adapted to the weather and water temperature
  • transfer between the base and the river
  • safety briefing
  • organisation and on-site assistance
  • Payable separately: the local river usage fee and the optional photo package.

Photos and river usage fee – so there are no surprises

Rafting on the Soča River requires a separate river usage fee, which must be paid on site. This is not a HungaroRaft fee, but a local cost related to using the river. The amount may depend on the river section used and the current water level.

Optional photos may also be taken during the tour. During the programme, the guides take excellent photos with OM System Tough cameras, so you do not have to risk your own phone or camera on the water. After the programme, you can view the pictures in an online album, and you only decide to buy them if you would like to keep them. The price of the photo package is: €24

Why the full-day rafting expedition is a great choice

The full-day rafting expedition is not a short white-water programme, but a complete experience. There is time to get into the rhythm of paddling, arrive in the rhythm of the river, get used to the movement of the raft, and experience step by step how the team becomes more and more confident on the water.

Because of the longer tour time, rafting is not only about the rapids. The scenery, the canyon atmosphere, the quieter bays, the stops on gravel banks, the playful water elements and the light lunch or picnic halfway through are just as much part of the experience. This way, the day builds up in a natural rhythm: with excitement, rest, laughter, shared paddling and a real Soča atmosphere.

Who do we recommend the Soča Rafting Expedition for?

The Soča Rafting Expedition is for those who enjoy rafting, love the atmosphere of white-water paddling, and are happy to dedicate a full day to getting to know the Soča River more deeply. This is not a quick “try it and move on” type of programme, but a richer, longer rafting experience for those who would like to spend more time on the water, in nature and with the team.

Rafting expedition in Slovenia is a good choice if...

You have already been rafting and this time you do not only want to paddle a shorter section, but are looking for a more varied, expedition-style day. During the tour, there is time to get into paddling, enjoy the rapids, stop at more special riverbank sections, rest, have a picnic, and experience what makes the Soča a truly memorable white-water destination.

Who can the rafting expedition be a good choice for?

For those who are looking for an active programme, like moving as a team, are not afraid of water, and are happy to take on a medium-difficulty but guided and well-organised rafting adventure.

It may be a good choice for:

It may be a good choice for:

  • groups of friends looking for a shared, intense, full-day story.
  • active couples who want not only a panorama, but a shared adventure in the Soča Valley.
  • families with older, active children, if they meet the participation conditions.
  • corporate team-building, because rafting naturally builds on teamwork.

We recommend it to those for whom classic rafting would not be enough, and who are looking for a longer, richer river experience.

Who is this not the best choice for?

We do not recommend this rafting tour if someone wants a very short, easy programme with minimal physical activity, cannot swim, is not in suitable health, or is thinking of a half-day programme with lower intensity.
For them, we rather recommend Classic Rafting, Family White-Water Paddling or the Sušec canyoning tours.

Important information and conditions

The Soča Rafting Expedition is a longer, more active and more varied experience than a classic half-day rafting tour, while still being designed for those who want to get closer to the real atmosphere of white water within guided and organised conditions. It is not for extreme athletes, but it is not a passive water programme either: participants paddle, pay attention to the guide’s instructions, work together with the team, and spend a full day in the world of the Soča River.

What is a rafting expedition?

A rafting expedition is a full-day, guided white-water tour that offers a longer and richer river experience than traditional rafting. It is not only about paddling down one section, but about becoming part of the rhythm of the river for a whole day: rapids, calmer bays, gravel banks, canyon-like sections, playful water elements, breaks and a picnic are all part of the programme.

What does class II–IV white water mean?

Class II–IV white water means that the tour is not for extreme athletes, but it is not passive boating either. On the easier class II sections, there is time to get used to the movement of the raft, paddling and the guide’s instructions. Class III sections are already more exciting: waves, faster current, narrower manoeuvres and more active teamwork can be expected. Class IV-type sections may be more technical depending on water level and conditions, so it is especially important here that everyone pays attention to the guide.

In practice, this means that you can also take part as a beginner if you can swim, are in good physical condition and follow the guides’ instructions. The difficulty always depends on the current water level, weather and the composition of the group, so the guides decide on safe implementation in every case.

Before the tour, you will receive a detailed safety briefing. The guide explains the paddling technique, the commands, the rules for sitting in the boat and what to do if someone falls into the water. The goal is for the adventure to be exciting, while remaining controlled and safe throughout.

Participation conditions:

  • Swimming ability: This is full-day paddling, so basic water confidence is required. The life jacket keeps everyone afloat, but it is important that you do not panic in the water.
  • Age limit 6+: The rafting expedition is generally recommended from the age of 6. Exact participation may also depend on the current water level, weather and the decision of the guide. Under the age of 18, parental supervision or parental consent is required to take part in the tour.
  • Weight limit: Due to the standard sizing of the safety equipment, the maximum weight limit is 125 kg. If you are close to this, please let us know in advance.
  • Health: Participation in the tour requires a sober state, free from intoxication. It is not possible to take part in the tour under the influence of alcohol or mind-altering substances.
  • Physical condition: You do not need to be an athlete, but basic mobility, stamina and cooperation are required. The tour is not recommended in the case of serious cardiovascular or musculoskeletal problems, or recent injury.
  • Safety: Before getting on the water, every participant receives a safety briefing. During the tour, the guide’s instructions must always be followed.
  • Weather and water level: The programme can also take place in rain, but the route or departure may change based on the current water level and safety considerations.
  • River usage fee: A separate river usage fee is payable on site on the Soča River. Since the tour covers the full section, it is 10.5–21 €/person depending on the season. Children under 14 receive a discount if they present their ID card. The fee must be paid on site. Further details can be found at www.gosoca.si.
  • Exclusive condition of participation: signing the liability waiver.
  • Insurance: Travel insurance extended to cover extreme sports is mandatory.

Mire készülj a rafting expedíció előtt?

Prepare for a full-day programme (minimum 6 hours), which includes administration, changing clothes, transfer, instruction, time spent on the river and a picnic. You do not need to arrive with any special equipment; we provide the necessary rafting gear. You only need to bring a few basic items with you so that changing before and after the tour is comfortable.

What should you bring?

Swimsuit or swimming trunks, towel, sunscreen, your own medication, dry change of clothes, a bag for your clothes, and if necessary, cash or card for extra items.

What should you not take onto the water?
Phone, valuable jewellery, glasses that cannot be secured, high-value items. You can leave these in a safe place before the tour. If you wear glasses, it is worth securing them with a strap. For contact lenses, it is recommended to bring spare lenses or glasses as well.

When should you arrive?
At least 15 minutes before the agreed time, because there is administration, equipment distribution and group allocation.

What should you expect physically?
This is not passive boating: you need to paddle, pay attention and cooperate. Because it is a full-day programme, it is better if participants arrive rested and in good general condition.

Weather and water level:
The Soča is a cold alpine river, and the programme may change depending on water level and safety conditions. However, rafting is also an experience in the rain, since you will get wet on the water anyway. In cooler weather, the appropriate neoprene equipment helps keep you comfortable.

What do we provide for participants?

  • rafting boat and paddle
  • helmet
  • life jacket
  • neoprene suit and shoes
  • transfer between the base and the river
  • safety briefing
  • experienced guiding

Arrive in a swimsuit or with swimming trunks, bring a towel and a change of clothes. HungaroRaft provides the rafting equipment, transfer and tour guiding.
