Classic rafting on the Soča River – Bovec’s iconic whitewater experience

Classic rafting on the Soča River is one of HungaroRaft’s most popular, "bestseller" programs: a scenic, exciting yet safely guided whitewater tour on one of Slovenia’s most beautiful rivers. Emerald-green water, the mountains around Bovec, playful waves, paddling together and lots of laughter – this is the adventure that brings many of our guests back year after year.

We do not simply offer a rafting tour. HungaroRaft has been organizing whitewater programs in the Soča Valley since 1997, so the classic tour is backed by decades of local knowledge, a professional guiding background and well-structured organization.

If you would like to try rafting in Slovenia for the first time, this is one of the best introductions to the world of whitewater paddling. And if you have already been on the water, you will still get exactly what you expect from a great Soča rafting trip: momentum, teamwork, scenery and safe excitement.

Why do so many people love the classic rafting tour?

  • Emerald-green Soča, true whitewater atmosphere
The tour shows one of the Soča’s most beautiful sides: crystal-clear water, mountains, a canyon-like atmosphere, waves and paddling together in one unforgettable program.
  • Exciting, but not too extreme
Classic rafting gives exactly the balance most people are looking for: adrenaline, splashes and laughter, while still remaining safe, guided and enjoyable for beginners.
  • Hungarian-language assistance, a calmer start
You receive the important information clearly, so you do not have to guess what to do and how. This matters especially if this will be your first rafting experience.
  • Professional guides, organized background
On the water, experienced Hungarian and international guides direct the team. The goal is not only to get down the river, but to make the tour safe, smooth and genuinely fun.
  • One of Bovec’s must-do activities
If you are looking for an active experience in Slovenia, Soča rafting is one of the best choices. In a short time, it gives you scenery, adventure, a close-to-nature experience and a shared story you will talk about for a long time.

When should you come? Choose the Soča experience that suits you

The atmosphere of the Soča River changes by season, so classic rafting shows a slightly different side in spring and summer.

Spring adrenaline – a faster, sportier experience

From April toward mid-June, the water level is usually higher due to melting snow, the current is stronger and the waves are bigger. At this time, the tour is more dynamic, wetter and richer in adrenaline. It is for you if: you like active programs, are not put off by splashing water, and are looking for a more exciting Soča rafting experience.

Summer adventure and play – relaxed, more family-friendly rafting

From the end of June to August, the river usually shows a friendlier, more playful side. This is when there are more splashes, laughter, paddling together and a lighter summer atmosphere. It is for you if: you are coming with your partner, friends or older child, and you are looking for a scenic but not too wild program around Bovec.

What should you prepare for before classic Soča rafting?

You do not need to arrive with special equipment for classic rafting; we provide the necessary rafting gear. You only need to bring a few basic items so changing before and after the tour is comfortable.

What should you bring?
Swimwear or swimming trunks, towel, personal medication, dry change of clothes, bag for clothes, and, if needed, cash or card for additional items.

What should you not take onto the water?
Phone, valuable jewelry, glasses that cannot be secured, high-value items. You can leave these in a safe place before the tour. If you wear glasses, it is worth securing them with a strap. For contact lenses, we recommend bringing spare lenses or glasses as well.

When should you arrive?
At least 15 minutes before the agreed time, because there is administration, equipment distribution and group assignment.

What should you expect physically?
This is not a passive boat ride: you need to paddle, pay attention and cooperate. It is best if participants arrive rested and in good general condition.

Weather and water level
The Soča is a cold Alpine river, and the program may change according to water level and safety conditions. However, rafting is also an experience in the rain, since you will get wet on the water anyway. In cooler weather, the appropriate neoprene equipment helps keep you comfortable.

What we provide
