A once-in-a-lifetime zipline adventure above the Učja Canyon

Get ready for one of Slovenia’s most exciting white-water environments, but this time from above! Učja Zipline Park is not just a cable course, but a complete aerial journey where you can speed across a total of 10 different steel cables above the emerald-green river and the rocky canyon.

The lines range from 250 to 600 metres in length, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy the feeling of flying and the stunning panorama, while the Učja River roars 200 metres below you.

What is zipline?

A zipline is a guided adventure programme where you slide along tensioned steel cable lines while secured in a harness, helmet and safety equipment. The lines run from one point to another, often above valleys, canyons or forested areas.

No previous experience is required for the Učja Canyon zipline tour: the programme begins with instruction, and the guides help you throughout with attachment, take-off and arrival.

Why Zipline Učja Canyon is a great choice

Zipline Učja Canyon is one of Slovenia’s most spectacular high-altitude adventure programmes near Bovec. Here you do not paddle, climb or need to arrive with technical knowledge: the equipment, safety setup and guidance are provided by professional tour guides, and all you need to do is push off and enjoy the feeling of flying.

The programme consists of 10 steel cable lines, which together provide approximately 4 km of zipline experience. The lines run above the gorge and eventually deep into the canyon, so you get panorama, adrenaline and a close-to-nature experience all at once. The special feature of ziplining is that it is accessible even for beginners, yet still gives a very strong “wow” experience: after just a few minutes of instruction, you are already gliding above the canyon and seeing the Učja Valley from a completely different perspective.

How the Zipline Učja Canyon tour works in short

1. Arrival at the Bovec base
The tour starts from our Bovec centre, in the Hotel Soča building. It is recommended to arrive approximately 30 minutes before the start, as there is administration, equipment distribution and a short briefing before the programme.

2. Receiving the equipment
Participants receive the necessary zipline equipment: helmet, harness and the technical devices needed for sliding. The guides explain and check the use of the equipment, and pay attention to safe attachment throughout.

3. Zipline above the Učja Canyon
Then the main part of the tour begins: the 10-line zipline adventure above the Učja Canyon. The lines gradually increase in height, so you can get used to the height and speed step by step. The lines vary between approximately 250 and 600 metres in length, so every slide offers a different experience.

4. Return and closing the experience
At the end of the tour, you return to the starting point, hand back the equipment, and then it is time to share the experience together. This is typically the kind of programme everyone starts talking about after the very first line.

Who is the Učja Canyon zipline a good choice for?

Zipline Učja Canyon is a good choice for those looking for a spectacular, adrenaline-rich, but not overly difficult adventure programme around Bovec. We recommend it for couples, groups of friends, families, multi-generational travellers, and also for those who would like to add a land/air experience alongside water programmes.

It is an especially good choice if you want to experience the thrill of height and speed, but do not want to start a technical climb or a physically demanding hike.

In the case of mild fear of heights, ziplining can even be a good opportunity to step out of your comfort zone under controlled and safe conditions. However, it is important to know that the very first slide immediately crosses to the other side of the canyon at a great height and over a long distance, and from that point the programme cannot be simply interrupted. The good news is that for many people the first section is the biggest challenge, after which the following slides usually feel easier and easier.

In the case of stronger fear of heights, it is better to choose one of our water programmes instead.

Do you have a mild fear of heights?

Many people come to us with a fear of heights, but the gradually rising lines and professional safety system eventually make everyone more confident. By the end of the experience, you are guaranteed to land with a smile!

Who do we not recommend it for?

We do not recommend it for those who have a strong, uncontrollable fear of heights, or who do not want to move at height on a cable course. Although the programme is also accessible to beginners and takes place in a guided format, the feeling of height is part of the experience.

What should you prepare for before the zipline tour?

Prepare for an easy but adrenaline-rich high-altitude programme. Ziplining does not require special physical preparation, but it is important that you can move comfortably in sporty clothing and follow the guides’ safety instructions.

Important: for safety reasons, you cannot participate in flip-flops or sandals; closed shoes are mandatory. It is worth choosing clothing with zippered pockets, because keys, phones or other small items can easily fall out of open pockets during the slides.

You can speed along at up to 60 km/h

You can enjoy and experience the feeling of flying more and more freely from line to line during the 10-line Učja Canyon zipline adventure. During the slides, you can speed above the canyon at up to 60 km/h, while the gorge opens below you and the Alpine panorama surrounds you – which is exactly why safety comes first.

What should you bring for the Zipline Učja Canyon tour?

  • Closed sports shoes or hiking shoes
This is mandatory! There may be short walks, stairs, forest paths or gravel sections between the zipline lines, so stable footwear is required. For safety reasons, it is not possible to participate in the tour in sandals, flip-flops or open shoes.
  • Comfortable, sporty clothing
Choose clothing that allows you to move easily, walk comfortably, wear a harness and move in the equipment. It is worth dressing according to the weather: in cooler weather, a long-sleeved top or thin jacket is recommended, while in warmer weather, light sporty clothing is suitable. If you would like to take a key, phone or other small item with you, choose clothing with zippered pockets, because these can easily fall out of open pockets during the slides.
  • Hair tie for long hair
If you have long hair, please tie it up before the programme. This is important for safety reasons, because hair must not hang into the equipment or near the technical devices.
  • Retaining strap for glasses or contact lenses
If you wear glasses, it is worth bringing a retaining strap so they stay securely in place during the slide. Alternatively, contact lenses can also be a good solution if they are comfortable for you.
  • A good dose of adventure
We provide the equipment and safety guidance; you only need openness, attention and a little courage. You can enjoy and experience the feeling of flying more and more freely from line to line during the 10-line Učja Canyon zipline adventure.
